Peter Tarot Centre

Peter TarotThe Peter Torot Centre was originally established as a conference facility for the Catholic Diocese of Kavieng. Dormitories and private rooms were added later on either side of the building. The staff at the centre are very friendly and the place is peaceful. It is very close to Kavieng town, the markets and hospital. Only a few minutes walk from Scuba Ventures.

Facilities, including rooms, are very basic but they are clean and tidy. Mattresses, pillows and sheets are given out on arrival. Guests must supply their own towels and soap. There is a kitchen which can be used by guests or if guests prefer, meals can be provided at a very reasonable price. A very economic place to stay in Kavieng for the budget traveller.

Mansava Adventure Lodge is located on Tsoi Island, North Lavongai. The guesthouse is built from bush materials with 5 rooms, a verandah and a dining area. The Lodge is perfect for swimming, snorkelling, windsurfing, canoeing and fishing. Your hosts Boston and Helen cook delicious local food and will ensure every aspect of your stay is attended to.

Tsoilik Lagoon Guesthouse

tsoilikLocated on a gorgeous sandy beach at the edge of lagoon, perfect for swimming and fishing, this brand new guesthouse complex has a range of double, twin and single rooms. Hosts: Graham and Ruthy.

The Guest House is situated on the corner of the island and the view is classic South Pacific with lagoons, reefs and little islands. The Guest House complex is still not complete (mid-20060 with construction of another 4 rooms underway and a separate Haus Kuk planned for the future but don’t let that discourage you from coming to stay as currently there are 6 operational rooms for accommodation, a functioning shower and toilet block and a small kitchen and dining area.


As you would expect with a new Guest House the bedding, mosquito nets and tsoilikcurtains are all nice and fresh and the rooms have flyscreens. In the most recently constructed building of two rooms, both have their own pleasant outdoor space/veranda. The ‘older’ building has 4 rooms, again with open areas for relaxing, a dining area and a small kitchen. The rooms, toilet and shower and common areas are all very nice and clean.

Power is by generator, there are electric lights but lanterns are also available.

EAST COAST OF NEW IRELAND

Cathy's Village Homestay (PREVIOUSLY LARAIBINA HOMESTAY)

This Homestay is in Laraibina Village - home of the famous New Ireland eels - about 1 hour’s drive along the Boluminski highway from Kavieng.
In her home Cathy has a large spacious room that has a double and 2 single beds. There is no power in the village so light is by lantern only. Mosquito nets and towels are provided. Meals are available. Note there are no conventional toilet facilities.

Panatalis DorDor Beach Peles (113km from Kavieng)

PanatalisThis traditional style guesthouse at Bol village is located on a beautiful sandy beach, a perfect spot for swimming. The shady trees make it a nice and quite place to sit and relax. Nearby is a lovely river. The people are friendly and the children are always excited to see tourists.

Also a separate ‘Haus Boi’ which has inside a raised platform suitable for groups to sleep.

Karavinai Guesthouse (142 km from Kavieng)

Karavinai Guesthouse is situated on the Boluminski Highway in Konos Village, some 2 hours drive south from Kavieng. It is located near a big river, after which the guesthouse is named, and is a good stop-over spot for tourists transiting to Tabar Island. There is a long sandy beach nearby so you can swim and snorkel. Come and make friends with Karavinai Guesthouse - you’ll be glad you did! Host: Atau.

Laxasilang Guesthouse (164 km from Kavieng)

Laxasilang Guest House is named after the major cultural symbol of the local tribe (“the snake”). Positioned in Malom village on the Boluminski Highway it is located between two running streams and 100m from the beach. Puroro Guesthouse

LeletThe Puroro Guesthouse is in Limbin village - the gateway to the Lelet Plateau so the weather is cool and the climate delicious. The turnoff from the Boluminski Highway is south of Malom village but before Dalom. It is a steep winding road requiring 4WD for a lot of the time. The area is famous for producing all the fresh garden produce for the Lihir Gold Mine, one of PNG’s largest mining operations. The Guest House is situated on top of a hill overlooking the village of Limbin and surrounding farm land. It has two rooms off the main living area and another in a newer building out the back. This guesthouse is quiet and cosy and is in a very quiet spot perfect for watching the beautiful sunsets. And being a little more isolated than the average village the people are extremely friendly.
One bungalow with 2 rooms plus living room and kitchen.
No power but lanterns provided.
Drop toilet. Bathe behind screen with bucket.
